Charter 2: War

23 Des 1232, I sharpen my sword, war is brewing. The cold winter wind was harsh and unforgiving. It was worse back in Bogor, where we had to subjugate a riot gone out of control. It was a massacre, we were told to spare no one. Of course, that didn't stop most of us from letting some of them go. I've never thought I would be raising my sword against civilians when I joined the army, it made me sick. Just the thought of harming an unarmed civilian was incomprehensible to me. I was very anxious, I guess Carper noticed, he came up to me, slap me on the back and said, "Eric, Stop sulking, I need you to go meet general Harper". "Why?" I answered. "He has a job for you, you should go meet him right away". After I finished equipment maintenance, I immediately went to general Harper's tent. The barracks was bustling with soldiers, some were sparring, others were leisurely chatting with other soldiers enjoying their warm drinks. I waited o

Chapter 2: A part time job?

In his bed, lay Sebastian. Wide awake and rigorously thinking, unbeknownst to him of the adventure life has yet to thrust upon him. The holidays... A time sought by all, you could go to the beach, travel to another country, do something useful in your life or you could spend it like me, doing absolutely nothing and feeling like crap about it. You know, things doesn't have to be this way. what are you implying? I don't know man, get a part time job or something. Nah, not doing it. I don't need the money.  Oh come on, man. I'm the reasonable, plot moving voice inside your head. You've listened to me countless times before, it's gonna be great. ... Fine, what's the worse that could happen . I can't believe I talked myself into doing this.  Sebastian spent the rest of his afternoon job hunting for a favorable part time job, after scrolling through pages upon pages of websites. Sebastian finally settled on a job. He's going to be workin

Chapter 1: A nerd's monologue

Loki, the light-bringer. Ever heard of him? The God of lies, trickery, deception. You know, all the good stuff. I've taken a particular interest in him, mainly because of a book I just read. The gospel of Loki written by Joanne M. Harris, basically Loki's life story written from his point of view. It's a good read, but that's not the point I'm trying to make in this discussion. It's the title of Light-bringer that is the center of this discussion. I only know one other entity that shares that title, Lucifer/Satan. Now, Loki is from Norse Mythology, Lucifer/Satan is from the religion Christianity. As far as my limited knowledge can tell me, the differences between them mostly ends there. Both are chaotic, deceitful and the enemy of the Gods. Both also curiously hold the title of Light-bringer. Why? Why are they called the Light-bringer? Light is supposed to be good, helpful, beneficial. Why then is such a title bestowed upon those that ironically are portra

Distrust

The Psychiatrist is in, the patient told himself. The white reinforced door slowly creaked open revealing the doctor standing behind it. He stepped inside, eyeing the patient with great interest. White walls, white ceilings, no object to distract or get in the way of the interview. The patient just sat there, seemingly unimpressed with his entrance. His trembling hand is the only flaw in his poker face act. Tap, tap, tap, tap, the sound of the patient tapping against the steel table. It ripples through the air, breaking through the silence. The taps sounded random, but the doctor can’t help but think there’s a pattern to the taps. Like there was some unseen method to an act of madness. The doctor, in a rush to begin the session, threw a folder onto the table. It’s content scattered across the table, pictures, data, checklists, anything that could aid the interview. He sat down and took out a voice recorder. And thus the interview began. “We’re recording this conversation, any
